Spanking new work - wallpaper design
Dec 4, 2025
Our sister company, Bright Design, was recently asked to work on a design project unlike anything we had designed before: wallpaper. The brief was for a bathroom and came from a client who loves the work of London-based illustrator Joe Fox - whose illustrations, as it happens, often explore some rather risqué subject matter. Starting from a concept involving characters caught in very private moments, we began to imagine how playful it could be to design the wallpaper as though these scenes were being observed through a series of peepholes.
As the idea evolved, we created a set of nine illustrations and carefully designed them into a repeating pattern. The goal was to produce a layout that could flow seamlessly across all four walls of the bathroom while still allowing for flexibility around fixings, corners, and other architectural quirks. Each wall had to be individually designed so that none of the peephole scenes would be awkwardly cut off or disrupted, preserving the integrity and humour of the overall design.
To add a personal touch, we even used ChatGPT to help illustrate the two clients in a style that matched the rest of the artwork. This allowed us to design subtle cameos of them within the pattern - little surprises waiting to be discovered by any eagle-eyed guest who happens to study the wallpaper closely.
